WONDERING WHAT TO DO DURING OUR OFF SEASON?

Here are some tips!

1)Rest, Rest, Rest! After all our hard training, our bodies need rest! Be sure you allow your body time to take it easy and recover.

2)Watch those calories! Since you will not be running/walking the same amount of miles you did while you were training, be sure to watch those calories and plan accordingly. Modify your calorie intake according to your activity level to avoid weight gain.

3)Try new activities! This is the perfect time for you to try something different and still remain active! Cycling, swimming, try taking different group fitness classes, etc. There is fun in variety and it is good for our bodies!

4)Try a different running/walking interval! If you wish to transition to a different group during our new season, try that new interval in the next couple of months and see how it feels so that when the new season comes you feel ready!

5)Enjoy your Friday nights but don’t get used to it! :) Go out with your friends for dinner and a movie or dancing. Have a normal Friday night, but do not get used to it so you don’t have a hard time later when the season begins in May.

6)Share your Marathon and Training Stories Talk to everyone about how much fun you had this season, all about your accomplishments, and invite them to join you in May!

7)Introduce someone new to the sport There will be lots of fun 5K’s including the RiverWalk Run which we will be participating in as a group. Invite someone new to try out the sport and have them get ready for this event with you!

"My Success Story" By Ben Bowen
FIT has helped Ben to stay motivated and accomplish great things!!

Marcela,
Since joining FIT around October (I don't remember the exact date) I have completed the first 3 half marathons in my life: 13.1, Weston, and ING.

I started running 5K's with my corporate run team (AutoNation) in 2007 and had been wanting to build up to a half marathon.

Prior to joining FIT, I had trouble staying with a training program because of time constraints from working full time and being in full time master's program. However, since I started training with FIT I have not missed any workouts.

Even when I was unable to make it to a group run because of travel during the holidays or school projects, I still trained on my own.

Being part of a group kept me motivated and I knew that even if I couldn't make it to the beach on a particular Saturday I would still have to be ready for the following Saturday.

I am very happy with my accomplishments from this season and plan to continue (I've already signed up for next season.)

I'm thinking that next year I want to do the marathon training program with the goal of doing the full A1A next February. I will finish my masters in August so I will get my life back and have more time for training.

I just wanted to let you know that I appreciate your dedication to the group and I look forward to more success next season!

Ben

Dear Ben,
What a great note! thank you so much for sending it, but most of all, thank you for being part of our FIT family! And congratulations on all your great accomplishments!! You are terrific! Your hard work and dedication this season has paid off! I remember when you joined us the first time. It was Saturday, October 31st, and it was a result of our Friends In training Article on the Sun Sentinel. We are so glad you read the article and came to join us! And we are very proud of you for all your accomplishments. Keep up the great job! We wish you the best with your masters program and we are looking forward to another wonderful season training with you! :)

Your head Coach
Marcela
