Disney Princess Half Marathon race and meetup info

blgprincess

Fun happy times await anyone going to the 2014 Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend, coming up over the next few days at the Walt Disney World resort in Lake Buena Vista, FL. Dreams will come true for princesses of all ages and sizes (and *ahem* genders…) as they take on a host of events, including the Royal Family 5K on Friday the 21st, Enchanted 10K on Saturday the 22nd, and the signature event Disney Princess Half Marathon on Sunday. There’s also the inaugural Glass Slipper Challenge for those doing both the 10K and Half Marathon (extra bling), and the Coast To Coast Challenge for those who have already run races in Disneyland and Walt Disney World in the same calendar year (MORE extra bling!)

Those of us who have competed in Disney races know how much fun they are. There’s always great entertainment, resources, character photo ops, music, the thrill and excitement of running through the parks to the cheers of thousands of adoring spectators, and some of the best-looking medals in the business. These races are also MUCH more expensive than others, so you’re paying for all those perks. But still, it’s worth it, as they are like no other races in the world. Mostly.

All that said… there’s a bunch of FIT buddies going up to the Orlando area this weekend, so here’s some important information:

1) We’re having an “unofficial” group dinner the night before the Half Marathon, on Saturday February 22nd at 5:15 PM at the Contempo Cafe at the Contemporary Resort. The Contempo Cafe is a “food court” (with touchscreen order stations) on the 4th Floor Concourse. Come for the grub, take a few pics and laugh with our buddies as we carb up for the next day’s events.

2) Raceday pics will be taken by the lovely Mrs. Millheiser on Sunday (February 23rd). Plan to meet up at the Start Area by the F-flag at around 4:15 AM. Usually it’s marked F-H but it could be E-G or D-F or who knows what. Just find the F (for FIT, of course!) flag and bring your best Princess smolder. I know I will.

3) There’s a very high likelihood more than a few of us will want to have a celebratory lunch afterward, since many are leaving later that afternoon to return home. Nothing has been planned as of yet, so make sure you keep in touch with your FIT buddies so we can get the word around.

Well that’s it. Good luck ladies (and gent)! Tutus and tiaras await us all with fortuosity in abundance!

FIT Runner Profile: Ines C!

Salaam, Bonjour, and Dobro Jutro everyone. We’re here at last for still another fun-filled edition of FIT Runner Profiles, our continuing series in which we get to know our fellow running buddies and find out what makes them unique, interesting, fascinating, or just plain awesome! There’s a whole bunch of FIT members who try to hide their secret identities as buttkickingly great peeps, and it’s my job to expose them to the world! Because that’s how I roll…

Going back to the well of award-winning French writers, Nobel Prize-winning author Albert Camus once wrote: “In the depth of winter, I finally learned that within me there lay an invincible summer.” Exemplifying that invincibility is today’s subject, a second year FIT runner and a running buddy beyond compare. Not only is she a registered nurse, which already makes her pretty bad-ass, but her quiet exterior masks a ginormous sense of humor that makes her one of the most fun people to run with. I can account to this personally, as I ran the 5K and Half-Marathon portions of the 2014 Walt Disney World Dopey Challenge with her and Kristi, and I never had more fun at a race my entire life. And if you give her any lip, she’s a trained martial artist who will whip your butt! So just look out! *ahem* Anyway, we’re talking about our very own Ines C, the subject of today’s Runner Profile. Find out more about our good friend and what makes her so unbelievably Ines in a little thing we’d like to call…

FIT Runner Profile: Mike J!

Howdy, Hola, and Buongiorno everyone. Welcome back for yet another fun-filled edition of FIT Runner Profiles, our continuing series in which we get to know our fellow running buddies and find out what makes them unique, interesting, fascinating, or any other synonyms you can come up with because quite frankly I can’t find my Thesaurus. Do people even have Thesauruses anymore, or is it ‘Thesauri’? Ahh I forget…

ANYWAY… the influential French writer Gustave Flaubert once wrote: “The most glorious moments in your life are not the so-called days of success, but rather those days when out of dejection and despair you feel rise in you a challenge to life, and the promise of future accomplishments.” Our profilee for today hails all the way from Blackfoot, Idaho — “The Potato Capital of the World!” — and is one of the few bonafide cowboys left in South Florida. He’s a comparative newcomer to running, but since he became an active runner over the past year he’s accomplished a great deal of success. Yes, we’re talking about our good friend Mike J, the subject of today’s Runner Profile. Find out more about Mike, and what motivated him to hit the asphalt all in the name of fitness, in a little number we’d like to call…

I don’t have a “Running Playlist” I just run!

Reason for Joining FIT
I have 4 sons, YES 4!  Three of them are now in college and my youngest will be going in 6 months.  Needless to say I found myself with alot of extra time on my hands compilled by the fact that I was overweight and did not like what I saw in the mirror.  A year ago last January I set out by myself to run a mile….I didn’t finish and was frustrated.  Day after day and month after month I perservered and through much Blood, Sweat and Tears I found myself running 10-12 miles each saturday.  I had lost over 40 pounds and was feeling Awesome.  I soon found that I was getting bored running by myself and needed more motivation.  That is when I went to a running expo at Vista View and saw the FIT Tent & Team….Marcela, Audrey and Brett. After speaking with them I was sold and signed up for FIT the next week.  It was then I knew my journey was just beginning.
