Marcela has also completed more than 200 half marathons. Her first marathon was the 2002 Alcatel Ottawa Marathon in Ontario, Canada.
“I loved it! I had such a fun time with my Friends In Training. We went sightseeing the day after the marathon, and it was a wonderful experience. Ottawa is such a beautiful city!”
For Marcela, marathon running has become much more than a sport.
“Running marathons gives me the opportunity to travel with amazing people to beautiful places around the world. Every marathon turns into a little vacation with my best friends — and I absolutely love it!”
When asked about her motivation to run, Marcela says, “My Friends In Training family and the incredible feeling of accomplishment after crossing the finish line of a marathon.”
Regarding her goals, Marcela shares:
“My short-term goal is to stay consistent with my weekly runs, regardless of my crazy schedule. My long-term goal is to complete a marathon on every continent — four down, three to go!”
When reflecting on her favorite running experience, Marcela explains:
“I have enjoyed every single event as much as I enjoy running itself. Every race has been unique in its own way. But if I had to choose one, the Pikes Peak Marathon was the most exciting, beautiful, and challenging marathon I have ever participated in. I would do it again in a heartbeat!”
Marcela is also an accomplished ultramarathon runner. Her ultra-distance accomplishments include a 50K, multiple 50-mile races, and an extraordinary 100-mile ultramarathon from Key Largo to Key West — which she describes as the most challenging ultra event she has ever completed.
Beyond running, Marcela enjoys a wide variety of fitness activities and outdoor adventures.
“I truly love it all — from running and spinning to Zumba classes!”
She also enjoys horseback riding and cycling. Marcela has participated in the MS150 Bike Tour, a two-day, 150-mile cycling event from Miami to Key Largo and back that raises funds for the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Additionally, she completed two breathtaking and demanding cycling tours across Switzerland through Bikes Switzerland, riding from city to city for 10 consecutive days throughout the country. Remarkably, immediately after finishing her second cycling tour, Marcela went on to run the Geneva Marathon.
“It was truly an unforgettable experience and quite the adventure!”
