Hello, my name is Vivien. I was born in Havana, Cuba many “moons” ago! Have 3 wonderful sons and 7 grandchildren.
I used to play a lot of tennis and sports, but never liked to run. It seemed like such a chore!! Then one day in 1999 I joined the Leukemia Society for a Disney Marathon just so I had a challenge in my life other than work. That started my “running addiction”, from there I went on to run Alaska Marathon, Cape Cod and Paris Marathon. Wonderful races altogether. I joined FIT in 2000 and have been running with FIT for the last 16 years.
During these first few years, I did many small 5Ks, etc. and I noticed that the 70 to 74 age group was very small, so my goal was to get there so I could win some races, as I am slow as molasses, as you all well know. I accomplished this goal several times. I did win the Miami Half in my age group one year and that was my biggest accomplishment as I had never won a Half.
Keeping healthy and keeping fit is what has made me keep on going. And if I had one piece of advice, I would say that the older you get, the better you have to train. Don’t worry about slowing down, cause YOU WILL, but just enjoy the ride!
