Is kind of hard to believe how the time has gone so fast, almost one year ago I registered wth FIT during the expo before the A1A Fort Lauderdale half marathon. Finally I took action after putting off joining the group for so many days, my friend of many years and my hero, Marcela, suggested a training plan for me. I was going to start running to get to a level of being able to run 3 miles and just before starting the season, I should be able to run 5 miles.
Now after one year in FIT, I have ran two full Marathons, Washington DC and Miami, two half Marathons, Fort Lauderdale and Weston where I had the privilege of running with my beautiful daughter, although she just ran 1 Mile, but that is ok, is the same distance I was running one year ago. Now I am getting ready for the half Miami Beach, the full Marathon in Medellin Colombia on September 17 (if somebody wants to go, let me know), the Full NY Marathon if I win the lottery, which I will, and the 100 mikes Key West craziness if the other members of the relay team decide to do it.
Looking at the year past, all I can say is that FIT was a miracle sent by God to me, it really helped me to be back in shape, you can notice the change in the pictures. FIT was a big part of some emotional healing that I went through after a divorce and the best and most beautiful blessing that FIT has brought is the great friends that I have met. It is kind a different level of friends that are as crazy as you to get up 5,4 or 3 in the morning to run on your side, to encourage you and to share with you many beautiful moments.
One of those remarkable moments was the time that we had in Washington Marine Corps Marathon. All the trip was amazing. I just can’t stop thanking all the people of FIT that organized the whole event. I got to share with a room with two Luises, Louis Marquez and Luis Tovar and from there a great friendship has evolved.
I want to thank My hero, Marcela, the FIT staff, my first coaches Maria and Anna in Fort Lauderdale and my current coaches Luis and Bryan in Weston, to all my FIT friends and to my dear special running buddies that run with me during week days and check on me regularly to see how I am doing (you know who you are), I want to thank you all, for giving the blessing of FIT to my life. I love you guys!!!
Luis Vargas
